About Me
Hi there! My name is Andrew Grass. I have 20 years of combined experience as a fencer, referee, and coach. I was a senior fencing coach and NASM personal trainer in the United States where I trained fencing students from the level of beginner to national finalists. After moving to London I opened my own club so I could continue teaching fencing at a high level to kids and adults alike.

One of my top achievements was getting recruited to study and fence at Penn State University where I was a varsity fencer. While I was there I studied kinesiology and graduated with a bachelors in science which I use to give my students a science-based approach to their fitness and athletic goals.
If you’re looking to learn a new skill, find an engaging way to stay fit, and join a great community Charteris Sport Fencing is the place for you. I look forward to working with you soon!

Fencing is widely considered a game of physical chess. It is mentally challenging as it encourages quick decision making as well as longer-term strategic planning. The physical aspect includes elements of conditioning, explosive power, and coordination. It is also a combat sport, which means you have to engage with your opponent, who is trying to out-strategize you in order to score. This back and forth is what makes fencing so fun and so rewarding!

Because fencing is a relatively small sport, there are good opportunities to compete nationally as well as internationally. As a national and international fencer myself, I have the experience to guide people on how to pursue a competitive path. For young fencers, there are opportunities to fence at university. Top universities such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia, etc., recruit top fencers every year to fence for and represent their school. Also, strong national and international results are great extracurricular resume builders when applying for schools.
Fencing also ranks in the top 5 LEAST dangerous sports. Many top fencers are in their 30s and still fencing at the Olympic level. Enjoying a sport for the long run with low risk is a great plus.
